Catholic Medical Center
Surgery Center
Manchester, New Hampshire

This project involved the creation of 10 state-of-the-art operating rooms, necessary support spaces, and an associated 20 bed pre and post-operative care unit.

The surgery suite encompasses approximately 16,000 square feet. The operating rooms are generously sized at 600 to 700 square feet each to accommodate current and future technologies. These rooms are uniformly configured to provide for consistent staff orientation and to allow flexibility of use. Some rooms have additional technology to facilitate cardiothoracic, vascular, orthopedic and other surgery specialties. Each room utilizes ceiling mounted service booms to maintain an uncluttered and safe work environment for patients and staff.

The perioperative care area is divided into two zones that offer different levels of pre and post-operative care. Patient comfort and privacy were of paramount concern. This space was created by expanding across the existing roof with an added story.

This project also involved the expansion of central supply services and creation of new surgery lockers and lounges on adjoining floor levels.

As is typical for projects of this type; it required a high degree of planning and coordination.
