New East Wing
New 73,000-SF addition to the hospital.

This added space was also an opportunity to present a fresh image of the hospital to the community; it brought the hospital out to meet the street and the intersection that is its main approach. Vehicular access and circulation were reshaped to provide for greater clarity and separation of patient/visitor and emergency access. Major program elements of the project scope included: Floor 1 - new Emergency Department with 24 treatment spaces; Floor 2 - consolidated the various offices of the New England Heart Institute; Floor 3 – houses a 20-bed Intensive Care Unit; Floor 4 was developed as a shell for future flexibility on this land-locked site (it became the new surgical suite). The building has also been structured to receive potentially 2 more floors in the future. There is a modular rooftop helipad with direct elevator connection to the Emergency Department and the future surgery center below.
